Water consistently during establishment, after which the plant becomes relatively drought-tolerant. Trim back any winter-damaged growth in early spring before new growth begins. If the planting becomes too dense or starts climbing nearby plants, trim as needed. No fertilization is typically required, though a light spring application of balanced fertilizer promotes vigorous growth.
