Vinca minor 'Gertrude Jekyll' - White Lesser Periwinkle Ground Cover
Vinca minor 'Gertrude Jekyll' is a compact evergreen perennial that creates a dense carpet of small, dark green leaves. This white-flowering lesser periwinkle produces pure white blooms from April to September, brightening shaded areas with long-lasting seasonal interest.
Key Features
This low-growing ground cover reaches 10-25cm in height and forms a mat-forming habit ideal for suppressing weeds. The glossy evergreen foliage provides year-round structure, while the profusion of white star-shaped flowers adds elegance to borders, underplanting, and woodland gardens. More compact than other Vinca minor varieties, 'Gertrude Jekyll' is perfect where space is limited.
Growing Conditions
Thrives in sun or partial shade, though flowers best with good light. Prefers moist, well-drained soil and tolerates various soil types. Once established, this reliable ground cover requires minimal maintenance. The spreading stems root where they touch the ground, filling gaps in borders, under shrubs, or along paths. Ideal for difficult areas where other plants struggle.
Garden Uses
Perfect for shady gardens, woodland margins, and as underplanting beneath trees and shrubs. The low-growing habit makes it excellent for erosion control on banks and slopes. Combines well with Hellebore, Hosta, or Heuchera. Can also be grown as a spillover plant next to stone walls. This 40-pack provides excellent coverage for larger areas.
