Cotoneaster dammeri 'Major' is a vigorous evergreen ground cover that spreads rapidly to create dense coverage across your garden. This hardy plant features glossy green leaves on long trailing shoots that root readily when in contact with soil, making it highly effective for covering large areas.
Flowers and Berries
In spring, the plant produces masses of small white flowers that attract bees and beneficial pollinators. These blooms are followed by bright scarlet-red berries in autumn, providing food for birds throughout winter and adding vibrant color to your landscape.
Growing Conditions and Care
This ground cover thrives in all soil types including clay, chalk, loam, and sand. It performs equally well in full sun, partial shade, or even dense shade, making it exceptionally versatile. The plant typically grows 5-20cm tall while spreading up to 1.8m wide, creating an effective weed-suppressing carpet.
Ideal Uses
Cotoneaster dammeri 'Major' excels at stabilizing slopes and banks for erosion control. It works beautifully trailing over low walls, beneath trees and taller shrubs, or as ground cover in areas where lawn is difficult to maintain. Plant 60cm apart for optimal coverage, or closer for faster fill-in.
