How the border packages work
Each package is a planting scheme of 30 plants: five different perennials, six of each, picked to suit one type of site and to flower in succession. The packages are named after European cities, and each product page lists exactly what's included, with flowering times, coverage and spacing. You don't need a design plan. Set out the taller plants at the back and the ground covers at the front, then plant in drifts of three to six.
Plants arrive as young, container-grown plants in 9 cm pots. The main photo on each package is an illustration of how that border can look once established, usually in its second summer.

How to plant a border package
- Prepare the soil. Clear weeds and loosen the soil to about 30 cm. On heavy clay, dig in some compost and grit.
- Lay the plants out in their pots first. Put tall plants at the back (or in the middle of an island bed) and ground covers at the front. Space them evenly across the area on the product page.
- Plant and water in well. Plant each one at the same depth it sat in its pot. Water thoroughly, then mulch to hold moisture and keep weeds down.
- Keep watering in the first summer during dry spells. Once established, most of these borders need little more than a trim in late winter.
Frequently asked questions
When is the best time to plant?
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–October) are ideal in Ireland: the soil is moist and warm enough for roots to establish before summer heat or winter cold.
How big will the border be?
Each package covers roughly 4–7 m², depending on the plants. The exact coverage is shown on every product page. For a larger area, combine two packages of the same style.
Are border packages good for bees?
The pollinator, cottage and coastal packs are built around nectar-rich flowers that bees and butterflies visit. The woodland shade and evergreen packs focus on foliage and structure, with fewer flowers.
Can landscapers order several packages?
Yes. Trade pricing is available on request; email info@plantgift.ie with your project and quantities.
