Which plants here are listed as pet-safe?
The plants in this collection are species the ASPCA lists as non-toxic to cats and dogs: parlour palm, areca palm, kentia palm, money tree, ponytail palm, calathea and spider plant. A plant joins this collection only when its species appears on the ASPCA's non-toxic list. If the ASPCA does not list a species, we leave it out, even if other sources call it safe.

What non-toxic does and does not mean
The ASPCA classes a plant as non-toxic when it is not known to contain toxic principles. That is not a promise that a pet will never react. Chewing or eating a lot of any plant can cause mild stomach upset, and the ASPCA's money tree page lists nausea, vomiting and loose stool. Keep plants where pets cannot chew them if you can, watch your pet after a nibble, and contact your vet straight away if you see vomiting, drooling, lethargy or anything unusual. For emergencies, your vet is the right first call. The ASPCA toxic and non-toxic plants list is searchable by plant name.
Common houseplants the ASPCA lists as toxic
If you share your home with cats or dogs, the ASPCA lists these popular houseplants as toxic to both: Monstera (Swiss cheese plant), golden pothos, peace lily, philodendron, aloe vera, dracaena, snake plant (Sansevieria) and yucca. True lilies (Lilium) and daylilies (Hemerocallis) are listed as toxic to cats, and the ASPCA names kidney failure as a risk. These plants are not in this collection.
Garden plants and pets
The ASPCA lists lavender, foxglove, lily of the valley, yew and rhododendron as toxic to dogs and cats. It lists sunflower and snapdragon (Antirrhinum) as non-toxic. We have not assessed our garden plants for pet safety, and the ASPCA does not list every garden plant, so check each species on its list before planting where your pets roam.

Some are. The ASPCA lists parlour palm, areca palm and kentia palm as non-toxic to cats and dogs. Be careful with plants that only look like palms: sago palm (Cycas revoluta) is not a true palm and the ASPCA lists it as toxic to dogs and cats, with liver damage among its signs.
