Naturalising Bulbs — Bulbs That Spread in Lawns and Woodland

Naturalising bulbs settle in and spread over the years, forming drifts of crocus, daffodils, snowdrops, grape hyacinths and native bluebells in grass and under trees. Ireland's mild, moist climate suits them well, provided the ground does not stay waterlogged. Free tracked delivery across Ireland and 24 more EU countries.
Plant naturalising bulbs in September–October for the best start. For a natural look, scatter the bulbs across the area and plant each one where it lands, pointed end up and 2–3 times its own height deep.

Crocus, daffodils and muscari suit lawns and orchard grass; snowdrops and bluebells prefer the dappled shade under trees; snake's head fritillary does well in damp grass. Delay mowing for about six weeks after flowering so the leaves can feed the bulbs for next year.
Our native bluebells come from cultivated stock; never dig bulbs from the wild. Avoid planting Spanish bluebells (Hyacinthoides hispanica) near native bluebell woods, as the two hybridise. Daffodil bulbs are toxic to cats and dogs if eaten, so plant them out of reach.
Crocus, daffodils, muscari, snowdrops, bluebells and snake's head fritillary are the best candidates for naturalising in grass or under trees.
Wait about six weeks after flowering, or until the leaves have yellowed, so the bulbs can build up strength for next year.
Plant native bluebells about 10 cm deep and 10 cm apart in September–October, ideally in dappled shade under trees.
