Daffodil & Narcissus Bulbs — Plant in Autumn for Spring

20 products

Daffodil and narcissus bulbs bring the first strong colour of spring, from miniature 'Tete-a-Tete' to white 'Thalia' and scented pheasant's eye. They are reliable in Irish gardens, naturalise well and are usually left alone by rabbits and deer. Free tracked delivery across Ireland and 24 more EU countries.

When and how to plant daffodil bulbs in Ireland

Plant daffodils in September–October, 10–15 cm deep and 10–15 cm apart, pointed end up, in sun or part shade. Choose free-draining soil; waterlogged ground rots bulbs more than cold does.

Naturalising and aftercare

Daffodils naturalise well in grass and under trees. For a natural effect, scatter the bulbs and plant them where they land, then delay mowing for about six weeks after flowering so the leaves can feed next year's flowers. In borders, leave the foliage to die back naturally rather than tying or cutting it.

Compact varieties such as 'Tete-a-Tete' and 'White Petticoat' suit pots and window boxes, and work well layered above tulips. Daffodil bulbs are toxic to cats and dogs if eaten, so store and plant them out of reach.

Frequently asked questions

When should I plant daffodil bulbs in Ireland?

September–October is ideal, which gives the bulbs time to root before winter.

How deep do you plant daffodil bulbs?

Plant them 10–15 cm deep, roughly 2–3 times the bulb's height, and 10–15 cm apart.

Do rabbits eat daffodil bulbs?

Rabbits and deer tend to leave daffodils alone, which makes them a good choice for rural and open gardens.
