Hypericum calycinum is a semi-evergreen ground cover that spreads densely through its root system, creating a weed-suppressing carpet of foliage topped with large yellow flowers. This 40-pack offers excellent value for covering larger garden areas efficiently.
Key Features
Each plant arrives at 10-25cm height in a 9cm recyclable growing pot. The large, rose-like yellow flowers measure 2-3 inches in diameter and bloom prolifically from July to September. The dark green foliage provides year-round interest in mild climates, with leaves turning purplish blue-green in autumn.
This ground cover spreads through underground stems to create dense coverage without being invasive. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, but also tolerates partial shade, poor soils, and drought conditions once established. The plant grows 12-18 inches tall and spreads up to 24 inches wide.
Planting and Coverage
For optimal coverage, plant 4-6 plants per square meter. This 40-pack covers approximately 7-10 square meters depending on desired density. Space plants 18 inches apart for ground cover use. The spreading habit makes it ideal for filling plant beds, stabilizing slopes, and competing with shallow tree roots in challenging areas.
Maintenance
Hypericum calycinum requires minimal maintenance once established. Simply prune the plants above ground before the end of February to promote lush new growth and abundant flowering. The plant is drought tolerant and deer resistant, making it a practical choice for low-maintenance landscapes.
