Key Features
Karl Foerster feather reed grass is renowned for its vertical architecture and reliable performance across diverse growing conditions. The dark green foliage forms dense clumps that provide year-round interest, while the distinctive flower plumes emerge in early summer and maintain their structural beauty throughout the colder months.
This ornamental grass adapts to nearly all soil types, from clay to sandy conditions, making it an excellent choice for gardeners seeking low-maintenance plantings. The upright growth habit reaches mature heights of 120-180cm when in full bloom, creating dramatic vertical accents in borders and landscape designs.
Garden Applications
Use Calamagrostis 'Karl Foerster' as a focal point in mixed borders, where its architectural form provides contrast against broad-leaved perennials. The grass works exceptionally well in mass plantings, creating rhythmic patterns and movement in the landscape. Its winter interest makes it valuable for four-season gardens, as the golden plumes and foliage persist through frost and snow.
This bulk pack of 48 plants is ideal for larger landscape projects, commercial installations, or gardeners creating extensive grass borders. The 9cm pots contain established young plants ready to transplant into garden beds with spacing of 40-50cm between plants for optimal development.
Care and Maintenance
Karl Foerster feather reed grass requires minimal maintenance once established. Cut back old foliage in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges. The grass tolerates full sun to partial shade and handles both dry and moist soil conditions, though it performs best with consistent moisture during the growing season.
