Aster ageratoides 'Stardust' - White Star-Shaped Autumn Perennial
Aster ageratoides 'Stardust' is a hardy autumn-blooming perennial that produces delicate star-shaped flowers in radiant white with cheerful yellow centers. This low-maintenance aster variety reaches 10-25cm in height and is supplied in 9cm pots, making it perfect for borders, containers, and mixed beds.
Key Features
This mildew-resistant aster variety blooms from late summer through autumn, providing valuable nectar when many other plants have finished flowering. The daisy-like flowers attract bees and butterflies, creating a biodiverse environment in your garden. 'Stardust' thrives in sunny to partly shaded areas and adapts well to various soil types, though well-drained soil is preferred.
Growing Conditions
Plant Aster ageratoides 'Stardust' in moderately fertile, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. This hardy perennial tolerates dry conditions once established and requires minimal maintenance. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots, then water during dry spells. The compact growth habit means no staking is required.
Care Instructions
Cut back to ground level in late autumn or early winter after flowering finishes to promote healthy regrowth in spring. Apply mulch around the base in winter to protect roots during the first two years. This perennial benefits from division every 3-5 years in spring to maintain vigor. Deadheading spent flowers encourages prolonged blooming, though the profusion of flowers means this isn't essential for a good display.
Bulk Pack Benefits
This 60-plant bulk pack offers excellent value for larger garden projects, commercial landscaping, or creating impactful drifts of color in borders. The compact size makes 'Stardust' ideal for front-of-border planting, container gardens, or filling gaps in established beds.
