Euonymus fortunei 'Emerald Gaiety' - Hardy Variegated Evergreen
The Euonymus fortunei 'Emerald Gaiety' is a hardy evergreen shrub featuring distinctive silver-variegated leaves that add year-round visual interest to gardens. This pack of 24 plants arrives at 10-25cm height in 9cm diameter pots, ready to establish in your landscape.
Key Features
This versatile evergreen adapts to multiple garden uses. Plant as ground cover to suppress weeds and create textured carpets of variegated foliage. Use as a low hedge for borders and pathway edging. Or position as standalone features in mixed beds and containers. The silver-edged green leaves maintain their color through winter, often developing pink tones in cold weather.
Growing Conditions
Euonymus 'Emerald Gaiety' thrives in any soil type, from clay to sand, and tolerates both acidic and alkaline conditions. It grows equally well in full sun and full shade, making it suitable for challenging garden areas where other plants struggle. This adaptability makes it ideal for north-facing borders, under tree canopies, or exposed sunny locations.
Maintenance Requirements
This low-maintenance shrub requires minimal care once established. Water regularly during the first growing season to develop a strong root system. After establishment, it tolerates dry periods well. Trim in spring to maintain desired shape and size. The compact growth habit keeps maintenance simple.
Planting Guide
Space plants 30-40cm apart for ground cover or 25-30cm apart for hedging. Dig holes slightly larger than the 9cm pots, place plants at the same depth they were growing, and backfill with soil. Water thoroughly after planting. For ground cover, expect full coverage within 2-3 growing seasons.
