Helleborus orientalis 'Double Ellen White' is an evergreen Lenten rose with delicate double white flowers in winter. White blooms combine easily with other plants and brighten shady spots in borders and containers.

Plant in moist, well-drained soil enriched with compost, with the crown level with the surface. Hellebores do not like being moved once settled, so pick a lasting position. Water during dry spells in the first year, and remove tired older leaves in late winter so the new flowers stand clear. In pots, use a loam-based compost and make sure it drains freely.
