Acaena Microphylla 'Kupferteppich' - New Zealand Bur Ground Cover

Acaena microphylla 'Kupferteppich' is a vigorous, mat-forming evergreen perennial ground cover that forms dense, low-growing carpets ideal for rock gardens, pathways, and border planting. This New Zealand native features distinctive bronze-green foliage with 9-15 rounded leaflets that create an attractive copper-toned carpet effect throughout the year.

Key Features

This versatile ground cover reaches 10-25cm in height and spreads to create effective coverage in both sunny and partially shaded locations. The bronze-green foliage intensifies in color during cooler months, providing year-round visual interest. From June to September, spherical reddish-brown flowers appear, followed by bright red decorative burrs that persist into autumn, adding seasonal charm to your landscape.

Growing Conditions

Acaena microphylla 'Kupferteppich' thrives in well-drained soil and adapts to various conditions including chalk, loam, and sandy soils. This hardy perennial tolerates exposed positions and is frost-resistant, making it suitable for diverse garden environments. The plant performs well in full sun to partial shade and requires minimal maintenance once established.

Bulk Pack Benefits

This 48-plant bulk pack provides excellent value for larger landscaping projects. Plant 9-12 plants per square meter for optimal coverage. The 9cm pots contain healthy specimens ready for immediate planting. Bulk quantities ensure faster ground coverage and a more cohesive appearance in your garden design.

Landscape Applications

Perfect for rock gardens, pathway edging, and filling gaps between stepping stones. This low-maintenance ground cover suppresses weeds naturally while attracting bees and pollinators. The bronze foliage creates beautiful contrast when planted alongside green-leaved perennials. Can tolerate occasional light foot traffic, making it suitable for informal pathway planting.
