Helleborus 'Dacaya' is an evergreen hellebore, also known as the Lenten rose, that brings flowers to the garden in the coldest months. It is a dependable plant for shady borders and containers, and its early flowers are a useful source of nectar when little else is out.

Plant in moist, well-drained soil enriched with compost or leaf mould. Hellebores dislike being moved once settled, so choose the spot with care. Trim away old, tatty leaves in late winter so the flowers show clearly, and water in dry spells in the first year.
